Certain movements may provoke symptoms but this is important to habituate to these movements so they will no longer make you dizzy. This helps us develop an appropriate treatment plan and home exercise program. With vestibular rehab, it is necessary to feel a little worse before you feel a lot better. We closely monitor your symptoms and encourage frequent rest breaks to avoid overdoing any activity. The key to your recovery is short periods of movements spread frequently throughout the day and knowing how to decrease symptoms between sets of exercises. You will be educated about tools and techniques to manage dizziness and nausea.
Your prognosis depends on the diagnosis. For Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), it takes an average of 2-3 sessions to reposition the loose crystals. For other vestibular diagnoses, such as vestibular neuritis, vestibular migraine, concussion or persistent postural perceptual dizziness, patients are seen once a week over a 2-3 month period.
